EUMHC Stars Join Scotland Squad for EuroHockey Championship II in Portugal

Edinburgh University Men’s Hockey Club is delighted to announce that five of our players, alongside our Head of Performance, have been selected for Scotland’s squad at the EuroHockey Championship II, scheduled for 27 July to 2 August in Lousada, Portugal.

Club Representation on the National Stage

Club members selected include goalkeeper Matt Taylor, who made his Scotland debut during the victorious FIH Nations Cup II campaign in February; former 1XI captains Iain McFadden and Keir Robb; Jamie Golden, the club’s goal-scoring star who will take on the role of Club Hockey head coach in the 2025/26 season; and Jamie Croll, appointed as 1XI captain next season. Our Head of Performance, Neil Allan, joins the Scotland coaching team, bringing his proven leadership and expertise to the national side.

Scotland’s Pool Schedule

Scotland will compete in Pool B alongside Croatia, Wales and Switzerland. The match schedule is as follows (local time in Lousada):

  • 27 July, 13:30 – Scotland vs Croatia

  • 28 July, 17:30 – Scotland vs Wales

  • 30 July, 13:30 – Scotland vs Switzerland

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semifinals on 1 August, with classification matches including the final scheduled for 2 August.

What It Means for EUMHC

This outstanding representation highlights the club’s ongoing influence on Scottish hockey. Five players and a coach from EUMHC will contribute at the international level, reinforcing the strength of our development pipeline. Their involvement not only brings honour to our club but also enhances our reputation, supporting future recruitment and providing inspiring role models within our community.

Tournament Significance

The EuroHockey Championship II is the second tier of Europe’s national team competition. Scotland currently holds the 20th position in the FIH world rankings (as of June 2025), while Wales ranks 17th, Switzerland 39th and Croatia 49th. A strong performance in Lousada could secure Scotland a spot in the 2027 EuroHockey Championship in London.

Building on their Nations Cup II victory earlier this year, Scotland aim to maintain their momentum with both club and national pride on the line. Selection of multiple EUMHC figures is a testament to the club’s culture, coaching standards and player development.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Matt, Iain, Keir, Jamie Golden, Jamie Croll and Neil Allan. We will be closely following their performances in Lousada and supporting them wholeheartedly, proud to see club talent excel on the European stage.
