Performance Hockey at Edinburgh

The Performance Squad (1XI) Will compete in the BUCS Men’s Premier National and the Scottish Hockey Men’s Premiership for the 2025/26 season.

BUCS Premier National is the highest competitive league for University Hockey in the UK, and the SHU Premiership is the highest competitive domestic league in Scotland.

Few, if any, UK Universities offer both world-renowned academic success and high performance for men’s hockey.

Our competitions and success - what makes us stand out 

Our 1XI plays in Scottish Premiership, the highest league in Scotland, and they compete with English Universities in the BUCS system by playing in Premier National, the highest competitive university league in the UK.

In 2025 the team won the Scottish Hockey Cup (becoming the first Men’s University side to do so), as well as winning the BUCS Premier North League, gaining promotion to BUCS Premier National, the BUCS Vase, and placing top 4 in the Scottish Hockey Premiership.

We have an exceptional record of developing international players and have had representation, with our 1XI earning a total of x international Caps at junior and senior international level in the 2024/25 Season!

Our facilities

As a first-team squad member, you will receive expert coaching, access to our world-class facilities, strength and conditioning training, sports science, and sports medicine support.

We have access to two Olympic Grade, water-based pitches, where our sessions take place, located at Peffermill Playing Fields. Pitch 1 is the Rio 2016 Carpet, and Pitch 2 was relayed in 2024 with the Paris 2024 Carpet.

Each week there are two team training sessions and two strength and conditioning sessions, led by trained S&C coaches. Additionally, there are opportunities for 1-1 sessions as requested by the players as well as team video analysis sessions.

There is also access to the University's world-leading FASIC sports medicine clinic for selected Performance Players within the Men's Hockey Programme.
