Performance Hockey at Edinburgh

The Performance Squad (1XI) currently competes in BUCS Men’s Premier North and the Scottish Hockey Men’s Premiership.

BUCS Premier North is the 2nd highest competitive league for university hockey in the UK, and the SHU Premiership is the highest competitive league in Scottish hockey.

The men’s head coach is Scotland International Hamish Imrie and he is supported by Men’s Assistant Coach Martin Beckford.

Few, if any, UK Universities offer both world-renowned academic success and high performance for men’s hockey.

Our Coach

Hamish Imrie is our 1s Player-coach and Head of Performance here at EUMHC.

At the age of 26, Hamish has a hockey CV many players could only hope to have. He has top-flight coaching and playing experience across some of the best clubs in Europe including Scotland (Grange), England (Beeston), Germany (Harvestehuder), The Netherlands (Schaerwijde), and Belgium (Royal Antwerp).

He is also an active member of the Scotland Men’s International side with 40 caps for the country which also include an impressive 20 goals.

Our competitions and success - what makes us stand out 

Our 1XI plays in Scottish Premiership, the highest league in Scotland, and they compete with English Universities in the BUCS system by playing in Premier North, the 2nd highest competitive university league in the UK.

The team has been in 3 of the last 5 Scottish Cup finals, as well as winning 2 BUCS Premier League titles, the BUCS trophy, the back-to-back BUCS National Vases, and the top Scottish League for the last 10 consecutive seasons.

We have an exceptional record of developing International players and have had representation at the last 3 Commonwealth Games and 3 alumni playing for Scotland in 2018, and 2 alumni playing for Scotland in 2022, as well as our previous Head of Performance working with Scotland Senior Men.

Our facilities

As a first-team squad member, you will receive expert coaching, access to our world-class facilities, strength and conditioning training, sports science, and sports medicine support.

We have access to an Olympic Grade, water-based pitch, where our sessions take place, located at Peffermill Playing Fields.

Each week there are two team training sessions and two strength and conditioning sessions, led by trained S&C coaches. Additionally, there are opportunities for 1-1 sessions as requested by the players as well as team video analysis sessions.

There is also access to the University's world-leading FASIC sports medicine clinic for selected Performance Players within the Men's Hockey Programme.
